Wednesday Poll: Hollywood Here We Come
I haven't seen any of the movies that were nominated for best picture, but nonetheless, watching the Oscars on Sunday got me in a movie kind of mood.
So, for this week's poll:
What's your favorite movie? And just to make it fun, pick at least one modern movie (say, post 1990ish?) and one classic movie.
Comment and discuss.

Well this list could be miles long.
Classic movies ... 1. Gentleman Prefer Blondes 2. Casablanca 3. Breakfast at Tiffany's 4. Charade 5. Roman Holiday (I have an Audrey Hepburn thing, like the rest of the world!) and Gone with the Wind.
Of those ... I'd have to say that Casablanca is the one I watch the most. I love that movie.
More recent ... Sense and Sensibility is my all time favorite movie. I watched it so often I ruined the VHS (not hard to due I know) and my DVD case is pretty flimsy. I cry at the same parts every time. When Edward comes back and tells Eleanor that his "heart has and always will be, yours," and Marianne and the others are watching from the tree ... sigh. I love that part.
But I love so many movies. It's really hard to just pick a few.

Finally, something I want to comment on. Remember, Meryl, I am in the middle of my mid-life crisis. LOL Favorite movie before 1990. HARD TO HOLD - 1985 - Rick Springfield - for very apparent reasons I love this movie. My favorite current movies would be any of the Pirates of the Carribbean. I still love my Johnny. If you want a good cry with some laughs- my favorite Steel Magnolias. My favortie classic movie would be Spencer's Mountain with Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara. Not because of the name either.

Gone With the Wind is my favorite movie. Other favorite classics are Rebecca, Singing in the Rain, Notorious.
I would have said The Princess Bride for my current one, but that's pre-1990. So I'll say Moulin Rouge (Ewan McGregor in that movie is the most romantic thing ever) and Persuasion.

I liked the movie of "Gone With the Wind", but I felt like it was kind of a shallow interpretation of the book--it's always kind of bothered me. I really like the movie "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams--it really depicts the way I've always seen the afterlife (i.e. you make your own heaven and hell all in your own mind). I also love the movie "First Knight"--aside from loving the Arthur-Gwen-Lancelot love triangle story--it's like all of my favorite actors all wrapped into one. For classics, I've always loved "Annie", "Star Wars", and "The Philadelphia Story".

Man am I having a hard time with this one! Too many to choose from!
For a classic I'm going to say 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir', but completely agree with all the others listed and could even add more.
For more recent, my current favorite is 'PS, I Love You', but also loved 'What Dreams May Come', Star Wars Trilogy, Indiana Jones (all of them), and Lord of the Rings. Again, I could go on and on. I love watching movies as much as I doing reading books.
OOH, for promising future favs, I'd go with 'Becoming Jane Austen', 'Once', and 'The Jane Austen Book Club'.
