First!! (sorry, I don't know why I had the sudden urge to do that!)
I'm thinking favorite costume was Isis because I think I went out several years as her (remember the slip on PJ type costume with the single tie in the back and the plastic mask with eyeholes and that incredibly uncomfortable band of elastic that stuck mask to head? yeah, I'm old).
The candy thing is a blur, I just remember the Dad imposed candy checks where I would lose a percentage of my candy to loose/suspicious wrappers usually limited to my DAD'S favorite candy. I'm an equal opportunity candy fan and am not too choosy about how my sugar reaches my system.
funny/awful memories of halloween's past? I was a complete dork (still am to be honest, but you won't catch me in a costume too often) and in my pre-teen/teen years always managed to pick a costume requiring face paint. This posed several problems one of which was that it was usually all smeary and gross by the end of the evening (did I mention nearly all costume choices would leave me sweaty and gross as well?!) and the second problem was that being covered in greasepaint made participating in fun little party games like spin the bottle pretty much impossible. Poor pre-teen me, if only I could take myself aside back then I'd love to lay the ground work for costume decisions to prevent me from being so dorky and awkward! Rule #1? No one likes clowns so why would you want to dress like one?
Before you ask, the costumes I seemed to favor that involved face paint? Ace Frehley from Kiss (ok, that one was badass), a clown (might I add this was the most TRAGIC of choices for a 6th grader invited to her first boy/girl party), and one of the Apes from Planet of the Apes (complete with a chin piece that kept falling off). There were probably more, but I've got a mental block.

I think every Halloween costume dissolves into a sweaty mess by the end of the night.
But at least your costumes are kind of original. I was a cheerleader almost every year--my older cousin was actually a cheerleader so she had a few uniforms to spare, and it seemed like a cool costume at the time. But looking back it was just BORING! I broke out of the pattern and was an old lady one year though--complete with walker--which was fun.
I remember that we always had to trick or treat down the road my grandma lived on. There were a couple of houses there that went all out in decorating, and one in particular that gave out the greatest treats. They were always good for at least a full-sized candy bar, and one year they even gave out DVDs.
I don't think I had a favorite candy--maybe reece's peanut butter cups?--but I hated (*still hate*) candy corn and the little fruit flavored tootsie rolls.

Let's see ... early on I was a Crayon. I was a fairy princess. I was a witch. I was a poodle skirt girl. Hmm ... lots of things. While I was younger anyway. Somewhere around 12 the creativity in me died and I lost all interest. I was a raggedy anne when I was 13, the last year I trick or treated. :) I thought that was kind of old myself. Not to mention ... AWESOME.
As an adult I stay away from Halloween. Pre-teen, Teen and Adult Halloweeners (that are female) tend to stray a bit to the slutty side, and Halloween parties with costumes end up being excuses for girls to walk around in lingerie or close to it. Or a bathing suit. Whatever. Alice in Wonderland becomes Alice in Whoreland, and if you think I'm kidding ... well I'm just not.
I don't really have any awesome Halloween stories. I trick or treated on base so we had the run of things. I didn't like candy corn either. And we had the candy checks, which almost always included Dad getting lots of our booty. But we had to keep most of the Halloween candy communal anyway, with the three of us only getting a small portion to keep somewhere hidden. Most of it went in the kitchen cupboard. Where Dad ate it. ALL.
We also gave Daddy all the licorice, because well ... none of us liked licorice and it is his favorite.

No kidding Stacy! Erin (Blaine's nice co-worker whom you will get to meet in, oh...let's call it a week) and I were handing out candy this evening and were pretty scandalized by some of the little teen hoochies. We saw a (couldn't have been more than) 14 year old Playboy bunny walking down the street! I mean I'm not against "cute" and I really enjoy "clever", but "streetwalker" just doesn't work for anyone.

Alice in Whoreland :) That is going to bring me a smile the whole rest of today!!
A dear friend of mine has a sweet 5 year old daughter who went as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz last night (and not a naughty Dorothy though I have seen them in the past). Dear friend has a tradition going with her daughter that I am going to have to beat out of her in a couple of years. Dorothy went happily from house to house and made quite a haul by 5 year old standards (not the pillowcase full I'm used to from the past, but for a 5 year old a decent amount of candy). At the end of the evening after they've sorted through the candy to toss any questionables (apparently Butterfinger doesn't pay much attention to the quality of the wrapping since Dad had to pull all of those for being questionable {{grin}}) Dorothy will get to pick 10 pieces to keep and the rest goes to "kids who didn't get candy". She leaves the candy for the Great Pumpkin to redistribute (I strongly suspect 2 rather BIG kids as the recipients) and in return the Great Pumpkin leaves her a book. Now, you know I love books, but this little young'un gets books any time she wants. I think they started realizing last night that the Great Pumpkin might have to move on one day so that this one little youngster gets to enjoy all the booty she reaps on Halloween ;o)
